
The Certificate of Social Determinants of Health/SDOH Proficiency (CSDOHP) knowledge builder course provides an understanding of the circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, learn, work, and age, and are shaped by a set of forces beyond personal control. These principles are extrapolated from their origins in Structural Determinants and include material circumstances, psychosocial and behavioral characteristics as well as working conditions, pay, access to housing, education and medical care.
Social Determinants of Health are important because they significantly influence a person's health outcomes which can have a greater impact on health than just medical treatment alone, ultimately contributing to health disparities and highlighting the need for a holistic approach to healthcare to address the root causes of health issues.
